A fire broke out in a residential building on Tuesday, killing 16 people and injuring eight others, according to the governor of Turkey’s economic capital Istanbul.

“The fire in the Gayrettepe neighborhood has so far killed 15 people and injured eight others, seven of them seriously,” Governor Davut Gul’s office said in a statement.
