Father found guilty of murdering five-week-old baby who died from broken neck

A father has been convicted of murdering his child, who died after suffering a broken neck in a horrific series of abuse.

Five-week-old baby Ollie Davies was found dead in his bedroom in Leicester with fractures to his skull, collarbone, both arms and joints in all limbs.

Ollie’s father, Michael Davis, was found guilty of murder at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday after Ollie was found with more than 20 broken ribs.

A jury found Ollie’s mother, Kayleigh Driver, guilty of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, but the 29-year-old was found guilty of causing or permitting the death of a child and causing or permitting a child One count of suffering grievous bodily harm. .

The jury was told how the baby suffered injuries in the 10 days before his death on October 21, 2017.

After being found in his cot in the bedroom he shared with Driver and Davies, he was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where medical staff were unable to revive him.

Crown counsel Jonas Hankin KC, prosecuting, told jurors that Ollie died from the delayed effects of a fractured neck.

Hankin said that before the trial, neither Driver, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year, nor Davis had presented an account or accounts of the accident to explain the injuries.

Davies, 29, and Driver, 31, both of Upper Temple Walk, deny any wrongdoing and claim they did not cause any physical harm to their son.
