Important deadlines related to FASTag are here. If you frequently drive on the highways or need to cross toll plazas during your daily commute, it is important to update your FASTag KYC details before the January 31 deadline.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently notified that banks will deactivate or list all FASTags with incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) updates after January 31, 2024, even if the balance is sufficient blacklist. Deliberate failure to fix FASTag on vehicles, issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and distribution of FASTags without KYC verification are discouraged.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is an electronic system for collecting highway tolls that makes it easier to pay tolls at toll plazas while also monitoring moving vehicles. RFID technology is leveraged by attaching tags to car windshields that are linked to bank accounts or prepaid cards. When a car bearing a FASTag approaches a toll plaza, a scanner scans the tag and deducts the toll from the relevant card or account.
