Emily Maitlis has finally broken her silence as Netflix on Friday released the highly-anticipated film Scoop, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of Prince Andrew’s infamous interview.

Emily, ex British Broadcasting Corporation news night host, Admitted she had not seen the fictional retelling of her blockbuster interview with the Duke of York.

The media personality, who is currently developing a three-part series about the same interview at Amazon, recently discussed the film with Netflix deadline.

She revealed that she was not involved in the project and believed there was “room for both” productions.

She said: “I have left [those behind Scoop] Very willing to do their own thing because I think the last thing they want is me peeking over the edge offering mine [views].It says it’s based on a fictional account, so I assume it goes to different places and does different things [to the Amazon series]”.

Netflix prefaces the new film with a disclaimer: “This film is based on true events, but certain elements are fictional for dramatic purposes.”

Although Emily hadn’t seen Scoop before it was released, she hinted she’d be keen to give it a watch “at some stage” and praised her former colleague Sam for taking the story to “new heights” .

Speaking about the buzz surrounding the Netflix and Amazon production, Emily downplayed the notion of any competition, saying: “I think it’s probably overstated.”

She views Amazon projects as “very different beasts” and believes “there’s room for both.” She also said the excitement surrounding her collection is “unreal.”
