Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced that the completed sections of Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road (UER) 2 are likely to be completed in the next 10-12 days inauguration ceremony, subject to the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the media in Delhi, Gadkari said the prime minister has been asked to inaugurate these roads.

“We have asked the Prime Minister to inaugurate the completed UER 2 and Dwarka Expressway projects. I hope that in the next 10-12 days, we will find time to inaugurate these roads,” the minister said, adding, About 90% of the work on these roads has been completed.

According to MoRTH documents seen by News18, 90 per cent of the work on the 30-km-long Dwarka Expressway has been completed and 85 per cent of the 76-km-long UER 2 has been completed.

UER 2 was built at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore and is divided into five sections, four of which have more than 90 per cent work completed. The remaining packages are 70% complete.

The Dwarka Expressway, costing Rs 8,662 crore, is divided into four sections, of which 90% of the work on three sections has been completed. The remaining package has achieved 79% progress.

dwarka expressway

Last month, News18 reported that the Dwarka Expressway is expected to be completed by March.

The highway is scheduled to be completed in April 2024.

It is planned as an alternative road link between Delhi and Gurgaon and aims to ease traffic flow on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

The Dwarka Expressway will start from Shiv Murti in Delhi and end at Kherki Dhaula on NH-8 in Gurgaon, completely bypassing the existing congestion on the expressway. It is the first phase or northern portion of Gurgaon Ring Road.

This expressway is a long-awaited project for the people of the two cities. The project was initially planned in 2006, but was shelved due to land acquisition and other reasons.

It will be India’s first eight-lane fully access-controlled urban expressway and six-lane highway.

UER 2

UER 2, known as the third ring road in the national capital, starts from NH-1 near Bankoli village and ends near Dwarka Sector 24 junction.

Last year, when Gadkari inspected the project, he said the first three packages of NH-344M would serve as an additional western ring road for Delhi, providing an alternative for traffic coming from west or south Delhi, IGI Airport and Gurgaon route. Fly to NH-44, Chandigarh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

It is also connected to the proposed India International Convention Center (IICC) in Dwarka and will improve traffic flow in Delhi.

The project started construction in November 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2023. It is currently expected to be completed in June.
