Trump’s comments came after he reiterated that his loss to Democratic President Joe Biden in the 2020 election was the result of electoral fraud.
“If we don’t win this election, I don’t think there will be another election in this country,” Trump said during an outdoor speech in Dayton that was blown by strong winds and punctuated by profanity.
In his speech, Trump also said when talking about imposing tariffs on imported cars and foreign competition in the U.S. auto industry, “If I were not elected, this would be a bloodbath for the entire country.”
Later, his campaign pointed out in a clarification that a New York Times reporter published a post on the social media platform X saying Trump’s “bloody” remarks were about the U.S. auto industry, Reuters reported. and economics.
In his opening remarks, the former US president paid tribute to supporters currently in jail for the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol, who sought to prevent the certification of Biden’s 2020 election victory.
Trump saluted them, calling them “patriots” and “hostages.”
Trump is under criminal indictment in Georgia for trying to overturn the state’s 2020 election results, but he won enough delegates this week to mathematically clinch the Republican nomination.
