Delhi Police debunks claim that mob attacked police, cop kicked man who offered namaz

Delhi Police said the officer was not present in the video.

New Delhi:

Police are cracking down on an onslaught of online disinformation after a police officer was seen kicking a small group of men in Delhi for offering namaz. In a recent fact check, police refuted claims that the officer was attacked by a mob on Saturday.

On Sunday, a user shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that “Inspector Manoj Tomar was attacked in the presence of police officers.” The video showed Inder, who was involved in Friday’s incident. A group of people gathered in the Rock area.

But police said the officer was not present in the video and that the confrontation occurred after he was taken to a police post.

“This is wrong information. There is no SI mentioned in this video. The video is not from yesterday (Saturday), but from Friday, March 8, when protesters gathered in Inderlok. Locals escorted the police to the police post and then A scuffle took place,” the North Delhi DCP said.

However, users were not happy with this clarification. Users who shared the clip noted that “yahi hai…maaro” could be heard in the video.

In a shocking 34-second video on Friday, sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar was seen trying to disperse several men praying near a mosque in Inderok. He seemed to suddenly become enraged and kicked two people from behind. In another video, he can be seen violently pushing people who were praying.

Following the incident, angry protesters blocked the road and demanded action against the police. Security was tightened in the area and police held a flag-raising parade. Locals were told not to believe the rumors.

Tomar has been suspended and faces disciplinary action. Police sources told New Delhi TV that the department had launched an investigation against him.
