Delhi-NCR faces disruption as light rain, strong winds lash; flight operations affected

Delhi and the adjacent National Capital Region (NCR) experienced light rain on Sunday with a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Light to moderate and scattered to considerable rainfall is likely to occur over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and Rajasthan on February 4 and Uttar Pradesh on February 4-5, along with Thunderstorms, gusty winds and localized hail. Rain/snowfall is also expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 4. Strong surface winds (wind speed reaching 30-40 km/h) are likely to occur in northwest India on February 4.

It is expected that there will be light to moderate, scattered to considerable rainfall/snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh from February 3 to 6, and in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and May from February 3 to 6. Scattered to sporadic rainfall will occur in Galaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on February 5. Locally heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in West Bengal and Sikkim in areas south of the Himalayas. Rain/snowfall with hail.

The IMD also highlighted that there is a high possibility of dense or very dense fog persisting at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on February 5 and 6. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 4. Dense fog conditions are likely on February 4-5 in isolated areas of Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura Cold weather develops in the morning.
