After registering six wins in their last match, Delhi Capitals will look to continue the momentum as they take on Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. Addressing the media at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting explained his team’s approach against the Gujarat Giants. “Tomorrow we will work out the batting order to ensure that we have the right batsmen to counter their spinners in the crucial middle overs of the game. The batsmen have a good idea of what skills they need to deal with that tomorrow Challenge. “Gujarat side, we are just looking forward to the game,” Ponting said.
Delhi Capitals are still awaiting Wednesday morning’s fitness test to take a final decision on opener David Warner, who is yet to fully recover from injury. “David did have an X-ray after the last game. The X-ray showed everything was normal. But he has a lot of swelling around the finger joints on his left hand. We’ll give him a fitness test tomorrow morning and keep him fit. “We’re praying he’s okay,” he added when giving an update on Warner’s health.
Speaking about the team’s performance so far, Ponting said: “The most important message I have given to the players over the last six games is how close we have been. We could easily have won five and lost one. The result is sitting here. So, we understand how close we are and how close the games are, but you can’t perform well in the IPL, you have to perform extremely well every day.”
“We know we have to do better in certain areas of cricket. Believe me, we are working hard every day to make sure we are well prepared,” he concluded.
Delhi Capitals currently have four points from six games, level with Mumbai Indians.
