Defense Department approves purchase of 15 maritime surveillance aircraft for Navy and Coast Guard: report

The Indian Ministry of Defense on Friday approved a proposal to procure nine maritime surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy and six maritime patrol aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard.

The 15 maritime patrol aircraft will be modified based on the “Made in India” C-295 transport aircraft. The total value of these projects is estimated to be around Rs 29,000 crore, ani news agency The report cited its defense sources.

According to reports, the transport aircraft will be modified, equipped with necessary radars and sensors, and transformed into a maritime patrol aircraft under the jurisdiction of the Center for Airborne Systems (CABS) of the Defense Research and Development Organization Arnie.

The ministry on Friday approved the procurement of military hardware worth Rs 84,560 crore, including multi-mission maritime aircraft, aimed at enhancing the overall combat capabilities of the armed forces. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, gave a green signal to these procurement proposals.
