The body of a newborn baby was found in a dustbin in a posh group housing society in Noida, police said on Wednesday.

Efforts are underway to identify the newborn and trace those involved in the case, they said.

They added that the body, which was found in the basement of a tower block at ATS One Hamlet in Sector 104 around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, has been sent for autopsy and the results are awaited.

“On Tuesday, Ravindra Mishra, a security guard at ATS One Hamlet, informed the local police that the body of a newborn was found in a garbage bin in the garbage collection area on the second basement floor of Tower 7 of the association. ” said a police spokesman.

“After receiving the alert, officers from the local 39th Precinct Police Station rushed to the scene and inspected the area. Subsequently, after due legal procedures, the body was seized and sent for post-mortem,” the spokesman said.

Jitendra Kumar Singh, in-charge of Sector 39 police station, said no FIR has been lodged in the case so far but the matter is under investigation.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem and the report is awaited. Further legal proceedings and investigation will be conducted into the case,” Singh told PTI.
