Days after Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, probe agency questions Delhi minister

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot has been summoned for questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to Delhi’s liquor policy. Mr. Garlot is currently serving as Minister for Home, Transport and Law in the Delhi government.

Mr. Garlot has reached the office of the investigating agency.

Just days before the summons was issued, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in connection with the case.

ED sources said Kailash Gahlot has been asked to appear for questioning in the case and his statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The case relates to alleged corruption and money laundering by the Delhi government in formulating and implementing the GST policy for 2021-22, which was later repealed.

ED claimed that the policy provides high profit margins of nearly 185 per cent to retailers and 12 per cent to wholesalers. The agency said 6% of it, or over Rs 600 crore, was recovered as bribes and the money was allegedly used to fund poll campaigns in Goa and Punjab.

Three Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have been arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The other two are AAP MP Sanjay Singh and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is also in jail.
