Australia’s explosive opener David Warner is likely to be fit for the start of next month’s IPL after missing the final T20 match against New Zealand in Auckland due to pain. The 37-year-old, who retired from Test and ODI cricket last month, will take seven to 10 days to regain his full fitness. “Warner will require a brief recovery period, which is not expected to impact his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

As part of Australia’s rotation strategy, Warner was also sitting out of the second T20 match. He will leave the shortest format after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in June this year.

Warner captained Delhi Capitals last year after Rishabh Pant’s horrific accident and emerged as the leading run-scorer for the team with 516 runs, including six fifties.

He was booed off the field by Kiwi supporters after scoring 32 runs in 20 balls in the opening T20 match against New Zealand in Wellington.
