Court orders former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to appear in court on April 4

Islamabad:

A Pakistani court on Monday ordered authorities to produce jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at an April 4 appeal hearing seeking bail in separate cases.

Magistrate and District Court Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard pleas filed by the couple seeking bail in the Toshakhana gift receipt forgery case, while Mr Khan was also on May 9 Petitions seeking bail were filed brilliantly in violent cases.

The order was issued after Adiala jail officials failed to record Mr Khan’s appearance in court through a video link posted during the previous hearing.

Last week, another district and sessions court approved a plea seeking the removal of Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi from the court, directing authorities to ensure the politicians appear in court on April 20.

Judicial Magistrate Murid Abbas heard a petition seeking the production of the materials in connection with the parliamentary attack case against Mr Khan and others.

Since being removed from office in April 2022, Mr Khan has been implicated in dozens of cases.

He has been convicted in at least four cases. His wife is a co-defendant in two of the cases.
