cnn main international anchor Christian Amanpour has revealed that she is struggling again ovarian cancerfour years after the announcement his initial diagnosis,
67-year-old British-Iranian journalist shared the news during this appearance This week on the “Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story” podcast.
“I have it again, but it’s being managed very well,” Amanpour said, urging people to understand how some cancers can recur and how they can be treated effectively.
“I revealed [it] Publicly in 2021 because I was off the air for four weeks and people started asking questions like where am I, am I fired, am I alive, dead, whatever,” she said.
“I decided to say something because I really wanted to do a service, not only to my viewers, but also to people who might be in a similar situation. I wanted to say what happened to me and hear about your body, because one of the reasons I got care so quickly was because I listened to my body and went straight to the doctors,” Amanpour told host Hannah Von Jones.

She described how she sought initial diagnosis after noticing pain in her arm, “which I was not familiar with”, and then discovered that “it really hurt when I went to the toilet”.
After visiting her doctor several times, she finally had an ultrasound scan, which revealed cancer.
Dr Angela George, consultant medical oncologist in gynecology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, has been working on Amanpour’s treatment plan and has also appeared on the podcast.
She said: “Most women, by the time they get a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, they’ve often been going to the GP with abdominal symptoms, sometimes for a year or more. It’s often misdiagnosed as reflux or indigestion, urinary tract infection, irritable bowel syndrome, so it’s really common for women to have experiences like this until they finally get the test.
“Many women will have cancer for three or four years before they are finally diagnosed.”
The announcement on the podcast has brought an outpouring of support and well wishes for Amanpour as he continues his treatment.

Another wrote: “Thank you for sharing your journey.” “Advocating for yourself and being mindful of your body is incredibly important, especially when dealing with complex health challenges like ovarian cancer.”
