The brother-in-law of Chief Minister Humza Yusuf has been charged with kidnapping and extortion in connection with the death of a man who fell from a flat window.

On January 10, a 36-year-old man was seriously injured after falling from a block of flats in Morgan Street, Dundee. He died in hospital a week later.

Ramsay El-Nakla, 36, is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

El-Nakla, the brother of Mr Yusuf’s wife Dundee councilor Nadia El-Nakla, will be the fourth person to appear in court in relation to the incident.

Jennifer Souter, 38, Stephen Stewart, 50, and Victoria McGowan, 41, all appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Suter did not enter a plea to the manslaughter charge and was remanded in custody.

Stewart and McGowan pleaded no contest to the kidnapping and extortion charges and were released on bail.

Souter is expected to return to the dock this week, while Stewart and McGowan’s next court appearance has yet to be determined.
