Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud rejected the request for “digital surveillance of all MPs and MLAs”.

New Delhi:

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said he restrained himself from imposing any fine on the man who had requested the top court to direct for “digital surveillance of all MPs and MLAs”.

Rejecting the request and warning the petitioner against approaching the Supreme Court again with such a petition, Chief Justice Chandrachud said, “Should we put microchips on the shoulders of MPs and MLAs?”

Chief Justice Chandrachud told petitioner Surinder Kundra, “How can any MP and MLA be digitally monitored? MPs and MLAs also have the right to privacy, how can we interfere in it? Do not file such petition in future.” Should go.”

At the beginning of the hearing, the Chief Justice warned Mr Kundra that the Supreme Court would impose a fine of Rs 5 lakh for loss of public time. However, Mr Kundra said he would explain his request in just 15 minutes.

Citing the Constitution, Mr Kundra said that MPs and MLAs “behave as if they are rulers” after winning elections, and demanded that CCTVs should be installed in the premises of MPs and wherever they go, So that 24×7 monitoring can be done.

“This footage should be available on the mobile phones of all citizens,” Mr Kundra said.

The Chief Justice then adjourned the petitioner for more than 15 minutes.

Dismissing the petition, Chief Justice Chandrachud said he had restrained himself from imposing any fine and warned the petitioner not to waste the court’s time.
