Center launches mobile app for applicants seeking citizenship under CAA

The implementation details of the CAA were announced on Monday.

New Delhi:

The Union Home Ministry on Friday launched a mobile application to allow eligible people to apply for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, officials said.

According to a Home Ministry spokesperson, the app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the website indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in.

“The ‘CAA-2019’ mobile application for filing applications under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 is operational,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs launched a portal for eligible people to apply for Indian citizenship under the CAA.

Implementing rules for the CAA were announced on Monday, paving the way for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

After the CAA rules are released, the Narendra Modi government will start granting Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim immigrants from three countries who came to India before December 31, 2014. These immigrants included Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians.
