CBI informs court that BRS leader K Kavitha has been questioned in GST case

On April 5, the court allowed the CBI to question Kavitha in jail.

New Delhi:

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday informed a Delhi court that it has questioned BRS leader K Kavitha at Tihar Central Jail in connection with a corruption case related to the Delhi excise tax scam. She is in judicial custody in Tihar in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged scam.

On April 5, the court allowed the CBI to question Kavitha in jail, but she challenged the order.

The CBI informed Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who is in charge of ED and CBI cases, that they interrogated Kavitha on April 6 as per the court order.

The CBI’s submission was in response to an application filed by Kavitha’s barrister Nitesh Rana, who opposed the CBI’s plea seeking to interrogate her in judicial custody.

The CBI told the court that since Kavitha has already been questioned, it will not respond to her application.

Rana, however, told the court that he wanted to raise arguments on Kavitha’s plea against the CBI.

The court referred the matter for further hearing on April 26.

Defense lawyer Rana told the court that the central agency had obstructed due process of law by filing an application seeking to question her “behind her back”.

Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15 in connection with a money laundering case related to the excise policy scam.

Kavitha, an MLC member and the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been accused of being a key member of the ‘Southern Group’, which allegedly paid Rs 100 crore to Delhi’s ruling AAP kickbacks in exchange for a majority share.
