Quota activist Manoj Jarange on Tuesday called on members of the Maratha community to submit a memorandum to their district MLAs asking them to raise their voices to strengthen reservation laws when the state legislature convenes for a special session.

Jalanji was speaking to reporters at Anthavali Sarathy village before embarking on a four-day tour during which he will visit Ahmednagar, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Nasi People interact with each other in parts of Gram and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

“People of the Maratha community should submit a memorandum to the MLAs in their respective areas and appeal to them to make their voices heard when the state legislature convenes a special session to strengthen reservation laws,” he said.

The 40-year-old activist said he would hold a meeting with community members in Antarwali Sarati on February 10 before embarking on a hunger strike. Jalanji, who has been spearheading reservation advocacy since August last year, has been demanding that all Marathas get Kunbi certificates so that they can avail the benefits of government job and education quotas.

Kunbi is an agricultural community and belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) category. “I will be fasting from February 10 as the government is yet to provide details of the caste certificates that have been issued. The committee does not appear to be working in Marathwada either, as a large number of records were found there,” Jarange claimed.

He claimed that while the government had agreed to consider data from Satara, Bombay and Nizam State Gazettes for granting Kunbi caste certificate, its status was not yet clear.
