‘Toxic debate’ surrounding children’s gender identification

The ‘toxicity of debate’ doesn’t help matters either, people are afraid of discussion transgender The issue is public, she said.

The research was commissioned NHS England four years ago The number of people seeking help for gender issues has increased dramatically.

Dr Kass told The Times: “I’m very frustrated by the criticism because it’s completely false information. It’s completely inaccurate.”

“It started the day before the report was released, when an influencer posted a picture of a list of papers that had apparently been rejected because they were not randomized controlled trials.

“This list has nothing to do with our reporting or any newspaper.”

She added: “It is inexcusable if you deliberately try to undermine a report that looks at the evidence on children’s health care. In doing so you are putting children at risk.”

Dr Cass expressed disappointment that Brent Central MP had made the “completely wrong” assertion.

She said the researchers checked every research paper, but not all met the threshold criteria for inclusion.

The total number of 103 datasets that are considered high or medium quality is 60.

The Cass report made more than 32 recommendations, including that gender care be run “to the same standards” as other children’s health services.

The review found that the entire field of medicine aimed at helping children change their gender was “built on shaky foundations” and there was insufficient evidence to support prescribing hormones to teenagers under 18 to pause puberty or transition to the opposite sex.

Last month, NHS England confirmed children Puberty blockers will no longer be prescribed outside of research trials.

‘Doctors fear appearing transphobic’

The Adult Gender Clinic also declined to take part in the review, which Dr Cass described as “hugely disappointing”.

“Malicious Email”

Regarding the abuse she has received online, the doctor said: “There are some really nasty emails coming in at the moment.

“My team is protecting me from most of them, so I can’t see them.”

She added: “It dismays me how childish this debate can become.

“If I disagree with someone, I get called a transphobic or TERF [trans-exclusionary radical feminist]”.

‘Misinformation makes me angry’

But when asked if the vitriol had affected her, Dr Cass, the former president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said: “No… it was personal but these people didn’t know me.

“I’m more upset and frustrated by all this disinformation than I am by the abuse.

“What makes me angry is misinformation.”

She added: “Following safety advice I will not be traveling on public transport at the moment and it is very inconvenient.”

NHS England has since announced a second Cass review-style review of adult gender clinics.

But Dr Kass confirmed to The Times she would not be involved in the report.

“You heard it here – I’m not going to do an adult gender clinic review,” she said.
