For the first time in history, people will be able to watch a digital version of the Coronation Roll

Buckingham Palace delighted royal fans with the unveiling of a digital Coronation Roll for the first time.

The beautiful roll has been shared on the royal family group as it says, “The first people will be able to explore the digital version of the Coronation Roll.

“The Coronation Rolls are a record of a monarch’s accession and coronation.”

The Coronation Roll of King Charles III was presented to Her Majesty the King and Queen by Deputy Prime Ministers Oliver Dowden and Antonia Romeo on Wednesday.

For the first time in history people will be able to explore a digital version of the Coronation Roll through a new UK Government project.

The roll contains a description of the king’s coronation, a detailed description of the coronation plan and ceremony. The Rolls contain the monarch’s oath to rule according to the customs and laws of the region, and details of the coronation ceremonies – prayers, services, blessings, order of service, and official guests.

For centuries this roll has been written by the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery.

The practice of making rolls for the coronation of kings dates back to the time of Edward II in 1308. Originally they were written in Latin and French.

The Rolls have been written in English since the seventeenth century and Charles III will be the first to be digitized so that a new generation of people can view it.

Visitors to the site will be able to watch video and photographs of the coronation and exclusive interviews with a number of key participants, including Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, Lord President of the Council Penny Mordaunt and the Earl Marshal, Duke of Norfolk.

The Coronation Roll of Charles III was written by Antonia Romeo, Clerk of the Crown in Chancery.

It was created by skilled craftsmen: handwritten by calligrapher Stephanie Gill, and decorated with national symbols of the United Kingdom, including the English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh leek and Northern Irish shamrock by heraldic artist Timothy Noad. Instead of traditional parchment, it was made on high-quality animal product-free paper.

Deputy Prime Ministers Oliver Dowden and Antonia Romeo presented the new Coronation Roll and its digital version to Her Majesty the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. Their Majesties also played several historical roles: those of Elizabeth II, Victoria, William and Mary and Edward II.
