A recent survey revealed that Muslims living in the UK donate more to charity than any other religious group living in the country.

Research carried out by Blue State, titled ‘Giving Behavior of British Muslims’, shows that the Muslim community donates up to four times as much as the rest of the UK population.

British Muslims donated £708 in the past 12 months, while non-Muslim adult British citizens donated £165.

Regarding the donation preferences of British Muslims, the report showed that 61% of Zakat donated by the community was given to Islamic organizations, while 14% was given to secular entities.

The survey, which covered 2,010 people across the UK and a dedicated sample of 1,003 Muslims, also revealed that three quarters of British Muslims have already donated money to support the people of Gaza, while 67% plan to make further donations elsewhere. future.

Despite the prevailing economic crisis in the UK, 49% of Muslims are willing to increase their charitable donations in the next 12 months, compared with 21% of other UK respondents (non-Muslims).

“Muslim donors aged 45-54 donated £723 (6.5 times the UK baseline of £112), while donors aged 55 and over donated an average of £685, compared with £129 for donors in this age group across the UK ( 5.3 times) more),” the report reads.

“This is followed by the East of England, where the average gift for Muslims is £1,127 (the average gift in the region is £215) and the multiplier is 5.2. In the West Midlands, the average gift is £659 (the average gift in the region is £133) ), and in the North East, the average gift was £613 (up from £117 last year),” the report added.

Furthermore, it was also observed that 35% of the Muslim respondents stated that they gave Zakat during the month of Ramadan, while 15% and 12% of the respondents gave Zakat on the last 10 and 27 nights respectively.

Furthermore, British Muslims “appear to be twice as likely to leave legacy gifts”, with 19% having downloaded a free will pack from a charity, compared to 9% of British adults.

20% participated in a “will gift drive” and 18% added a donation to charity in their will.
