A record number of baby names were given to just one baby in Scotland last year, including Banksy, Daemon and Jihad, National Records of Scotland said on Thursday.
Boy, Demigod, Howl and Shady are also among the 2,362 unique names for boys. Alloy, Costly and Pasty are among 2,983 unique names for girls.
The agency, which compiles Scotland’s demographic data, said that among the more traditional names, Isla returned to be the most popular name for girls, with Luca the most popular for boys.
“There are more names in use today than in previous generations,” said NRS statistician Phillipa Haxton.
“The number of unique names given to boys reached an all-time high in 2023, as did the number of unique names given to only one child in a year.”
Luca’s popularity has continued to grow since the release of the 2021 Pixar film of the same name, and new parents seem to have been influenced by last year’s big-screen hit.
Following “Oppenheimer” actor Cillian Murphy and “Barbie” star Margot Robbie, Cillian and Margot rose 24 and 57 places respectively in the overall list to reach 99th and 106th.
Scotland’s population is estimated to be a record high of 5.4 million, according to the latest census in 2022.
