BJP complains to Election Commission over misuse of RSS name

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday alleged that a group linked to Congress leaders was misusing the name of the RSS to spread propaganda against the ruling party on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls and urged the Election Commission to take “severe action” against them.

He alleged that Congress president Sevadar was leading the “fake” organization.

Singh said the organization was reaching out to people and telling them that they should ensure the defeat of the BJP.

“This organization is using the name of RSS to push the same narrative that Rahul Gandhi has been trying to construct. They are posting on Must be defeated. People in Congress are forwarding them,” he charged.

“We urge the Election Commission to take strict action against them and file an FIR against these people. Their social media posts should also be deleted,” the BJP leader told reporters.

Mr. Singh said the BJP delegation also urged the Election Commission to issue a notice to the Congress in this regard so that such “fake organizations” and their social media posts are not propagated to create confusion and mislead people in the elections.

“This is a serious violation of the model code of conduct. We have requested the EC to take strict action,” the BJP leader added.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party said in a memorandum to the European Commission that a “viral video” pledging support to the opposition Indian bloc and its constituent Congress was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Aawaz India” on March 24 with the title “RSS Support Congress, causing uproar across the country; RSS chief Janardan Moon Abdul Pasha’s PC (press conference)”.

The BJP urged the EC to direct the Congress party and its Seva Dal to issue a “public apology” on all social media platforms.
