Bettiah (Bihar):

A woman arrested in a murder case was found hanging inside the premises of a police station in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Monday, an official said.

The accused was arrested in a dowry death case and was lodged in the women’s barrack at Shikarpur police station in Bettiah, the district headquarters of West Champaran.

Police suspect that she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan using her saree shortly before she was to be taken to the local court for appearance.

Bettiah sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Jai Prakash Singh said, “The incident took place when the lady policeman in the barrack had gone out to prepare documents to produce him in the court. When they returned to the barrack, they Found him hanging.” , told reporters.

He said that the woman was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead.

Magisterial inquiry into the incident has been ordered.

The police are also investigating the lapses on the part of the officers who were assigned the task of keeping an eye on him inside the barrack.
