Vijay Kumar Rai, a resident of Ramgama village in Bihar’s Samastipur district, has set an example for others after switching from traditional farming to poultry farming. Rai becomes an inspiration to local farmers as he earns about Rs 8 lakh annually from his poultry business.

As a farmer, Vijay Kumar Rai has struggled with poverty and numerous challenges over the years, facing difficulties in meeting the basic needs of his family and ensuring that his children receive a proper education. He got the idea to get into poultry farming after witnessing the success of his neighbors in the same industry. Inspired by his neighbor, Vijay decided to start his entrepreneurial journey.

Vijay Kumar Rai started the process of setting up a poultry farm after discussions with his neighbours. He found a suitable area large enough to house approximately 3,500 chickens and purchased the chicks directly from a local hatchery. The process includes a rearing period of approximately 35 days, which is essential to ensure that the chickens grow to a weight of around 2kg.

What started as a small poultry farming business grew into a thriving business generating an annual revenue of Rs 8 lakh for Rai. His commitment and sincere hard work helped him build a profitable poultry business.

Sharing the challenges he faced, Rai said he initially did not realize the limited profitability of conventional farming. Financial difficulties made it difficult for his family to survive, prompting him to explore new business ventures.
