Bengal DGP holds meeting with officials, asks them to ensure strict vigil on Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ day

West Bengal Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar met senior police officers on Friday to ensure that the force remains on alert in view of the January 22 terror attack.Dignity of life’ Ayodhya Ram temple ceremony.

Kumar held an emergency meeting with the commissioners and superintendents of police (SP) of all the districts and told them that no rally would be allowed at any of these places without police permission. Teams should ensure that there is no gathering in the areas.

Kumar said, police teams are responsible to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.

Sources said that the DGP directed the deployment of additional forces in ‘sensitive’ areas. He said that if there is even the slightest disturbance in any area, strict action should be taken.

Sources said that officials have been asked to keep the barricaded posts operational round the clock. It is expected that police forces will be on high alert in areas with mixed communities in the state.

Live telecast of the Ram temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony will be shown on giant screens at several places, sources said, adding that police have been asked to keep a tight vigil there too.

Sources said that security forces have been asked to keep special vigil in the areas of Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Malda and Murshidabad.

Mamata Banerjee’s Samprati Rally

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will organize a ‘Samprati Rally’ (goodwill rally) on the occasion of the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22.

Earlier, opposition leader and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had filed a request in the court to not allow the rally as there were concerns over political unrest in the state. However, the court allowed the rally led by the TMC supremo and directed the government to ensure that peace is maintained during the rally.

Sources said that high level security arrangements will also be made for the rally.

The Bengal chief minister had on Tuesday announced that she would lead a ‘Sadbhav Rally’ in Kolkata on January 22, starting from Hazra Crossing in south Kolkata after paying homage to Goddess Kali at the Kalighat temple.
