U.S. authorities said a preliminary investigation showed that the 2.57-kilometer-long Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was hit by a container ship. It was an accident and there was no evidence that it was a terrorist attack. US President Joe Biden thanked the Indian crew on board the ship for being able to alert authorities that they had lost control of the vessel.
Six workers missing after the bridge collapsed are presumed dead and rescue operations have been called off, the official said.
