After returning to the BJP after a brief flirtation with the ruling Congress, veteran leader Jagadish Sheetal, who is contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, said he is confident of being elected to the Lok Sabha from Belagavi district .

Speaking to ANI on Monday, the former Karnataka chief minister said: “I am in regular touch with all party workers and the people of Belagavi. This place holds a special place in my heart. I am confident To repay the party’s trust in me.” This is my responsibility. I hope to be elected as the MP from Belagavi district. “

Talking about the dispute between Marathas and Kannadigas, Sheetal said there was no difference between the two communities.

“Here, in Karnataka, Marathas and Kannadigas are like brothers. There is no difference between the two communities. They are both Indians,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced its fifth list for the Lok Sabha elections with a total of 111 candidates. Former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who recently returned to the party from the Congress, was fielded from Belgaum, while former state minister K Sudhakar will Campaigning for Chikbalapur.

Sheetal will contest against Belagavi to replace sitting MP Mangala Angadi who refused re-nomination.

Sheetal, who quit the BJP and switched to the Congress after being rejected in last year’s assembly elections, returned to his original party in January.

Sheetal, who was elected MLA from the constituency six times, was reportedly advised by the party to resign and not seek a new term as Hubli-Dharwad Central MP, following which his followers expressed their disapproval of the BJP top Leadership pain.

Polling for 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka will be held in two phases – April 26 and May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and the JDS joined forces to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party, but still failed miserably. The BJP won a record 25 seats, while the Congress and the JDS won just one seat each.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases starting from April 19. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
