Australia’s first openly gay female member of parliament has married her partner Sophie Alouash, Foreign Minister Wong Yin-hyun said on Sunday.

“We are so happy that so many family and friends were able to share this special day with us,” Huang said on social media platform Instagram, along with a photo of her and Alouash in wedding dresses and holding flowers.

Wang and Alouash have been together for nearly two decades and tied the knot on Saturday at a winery in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Wong represents South Australia in the Senate.

Wong, a Labor senator since 2002, is the first Asian-born person to hold an Australian cabinet post.

Same-sex marriage was legalized in Australia in 2017, a watershed moment in Australia where homosexuality was not decriminalized in all states until 1997.
