At least three miners from Assam were allegedly abducted by suspected militants in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, a senior police official said on Sunday.

A paramilitary spokesman told PTI that a team of police from both countries and the Assam Rifles launched a rescue operation to track down the miners.

Tinsukia police chief Abhijit Gaurav said three people from the area, who were working in a coal mine in a neighboring state, were allegedly abducted. “They were identified as Gyan Thapa, Lekhan Bora and Chandan Narzari. The exact number of people who were kidnapped is not yet known,” he said.

ASP Bibhash Das of Tinsukia is monitoring the case to ensure their safe return. According to reports from Arunachal Pradesh, a coal miner was kidnapped by suspected ULFA(I) and NSCN militants in Febru Basti area of ​​Changlang district.
