Apple plans to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10, where the company is expected to unveil its long-awaited artificial intelligence strategy.
The iPhone maker announced the schedule on Tuesday, saying the event will run until June 14. Although Apple has not revealed what products it plans to launch as usual, people familiar with the matter said that the conference will focus on artificial intelligence.
Continuing the approach it has taken since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the conference will be hosted free of charge for developers on Apple’s website and apps. Opening day announcements will be made on-site at the company’s campus in Cupertino, California.
Apple is expected to roll out its next major software update for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Vision Pro headphones and smartwatches, with its new artificial intelligence strategy set to be front and center in the planned iOS 18 upgrade.
“It’s going to be absolutely incredible,” Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak said when announcing the event – a clear nod to artificial intelligence.
Apple’s artificial intelligence strategy will include a series of new proactive features to help users in their daily lives. However, the company has no plans to launch its own generative AI chatbot. According to Bloomberg, Apple is in talks with potential partners such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google and OpenAI to provide generative artificial intelligence services.
The iOS 18 update is expected to be the most ambitious software overhaul in iPhone history, according to people involved in the upgrade effort. The company is also planning a minor update to the Apple Watch’s software and the first major update to the operating system running on its Vision Pro headphones.
