Apple is said to be developing a foldable phone larger than the iPhone

Apple is reportedly working on a foldable device that could be larger than a smartphone. According to a report by DigiTimes, citing supply chain sources in Taiwan, the so-called foldable device may come in the form of a laptop or tablet. The iPhone maker is said to have been working on the foldable device for at least five years and is expected to decide on the device’s design before the company begins manufacturing.

according to Report (pass MacRumors), the Cupertino company is working on a “bigger device” that could come in the form of the aforementioned device rather than a foldable iPhone. To achieve this, the company has reportedly assigned engineers from its Vision Pro team to develop components of the foldable device, including the hinge.

If Apple does launch a foldable device in the next few years (reports say it’s unlikely before 2025), it could compete with products from Samsung, Oppo, Google, Huawei, and Xiaomi. These are just some of the companies that already offer foldable devices that are currently available for consumer purchase.

Earlier this month, Chinese whistleblower “Fixing Focus Digital” claimed that Apple had suspended the development of foldable screen devices due to unsatisfactory screen test results, and said that Apple had purchased several foldable screen devices. Competitors are tearing apart foldable smartphones while “accelerating development” processes.

The report refutes this claim, saying that work on foldable phones has not been paused and that the company is working on more than one foldable device, with different divisions working on each product. Apple has not announced any plans to launch a foldable smartphone in the coming months or years.
