The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed that Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Shaikh, the main accused in sexual assault on women and land grab in Sandeshkhali, can be arrested by the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED) or West Bengal Police.

On the request of the state advocate general, the court clarified its February 26 order in which it had ordered the police authority to arrest Sheikh.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam clarified that the court in its February 7 order stayed the formation of a joint special investigation team (SIT) of CBI and West Bengal Police by a single bench only to investigate the attack on ED officials. Was. ,

The bench directed that “CBI or ED will also be at liberty” to arrest the absconding Shaikh, noting that he has been absconding for quite some time.

ED officials were attacked by a mob of about 1,000 in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on January 5 when they had gone to search Shaikh’s premises in connection with the investigation into the alleged ration distribution scam in the state.
