Wings India in 2024, Akasa AirIndia’s fastest growing airline has strengthened its position in the aviation industry with a firm order for 150 fuel-efficient Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
The order, which includes 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 jets, marks a significant step in the airline’s expansion plans, ensuring a steady stream of aircraft deliveries until 2032.
The announcement at the Hyderabad-based event makes Akasa Air the only Indian airline to cross the order book of 200 aircraft within just 17 months of commencing operations. The order underlines the financial stability of the airline and reflects Boeing’s confidence in the future of Akasa Air.
Vinay Dubey, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, shared his excitement at the Wings 2024 airshow, saying, “This large and historic aircraft order takes Akasa on its path to becoming one of the top 30 leading airlines in the world. This decade.” He highlighted the importance of the development as evidence of India’s promising aviation market.
The latest order follows Akasa Air’s initial purchase of 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2021 and an additional order for 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in June 2023. With the recent acquisition, the airline’s total order book has now reached an impressive 226 aircraft.
The airline’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the choice of the 737 MAX family, which is known for its superior fuel efficiency, lower carbon emissions and 50 percent lower noise footprint. The move is in line with Akasa Air’s dedication to providing a reliable and eco-friendly flying experience.
