King Jigme Kesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan hosted a special family dinner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Lingkana Palace during his recent state visit. According to the Press Trust of India news agency, it is the first time for the King of Bhutan to receive the Prime Minister of India at K5 Residence Lingkana Palace.

“No Indian Prime Minister has ever received a private dinner from a King before. Prime Minister Modi has now been afforded this privilege. From a private dinner for the King to being conferred with the country’s highest civilian honour, three special gestures from Bhutan emerged as highlights of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the Himalayan nation.

In an unprecedented welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan, people lined up in long queues along the 45-km-long street from Paro to Thimphu.

The Prime Minister also interacted with members of the Indian community and local Bhutanese who gathered outside a Thimphu hotel to welcome him.

During his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the Order of the Dragon Gyalpo on Friday, making him the first foreign head of government to receive this honour.

The award is in recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to strengthening India-Bhutan friendship and his people-centric leadership.

“It is an honor to be awarded the ‘Dragon Gyalpo Order’ by Bhutan. I dedicate it to 1.4 billion Indians,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X shortly after.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday concluded a fruitful two-day state visit to Bhutan, during which he assured Thimphu of New Delhi’s firm support for its development and agreed to provide Rs 10,000 crore to the Himalayan nation over the next five years.

On March 23, when Prime Minister Modi departed for New Delhi, the King of Bhutan and Prime Minister Tshering Togai saw him off at the airport with a special gesture.
