New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said he has received two fresh summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), one of which was issued by his cabinet colleague Atishi Case involving Delhi liquor policy. Senior AAP leaders said the second notification was related to a “fake” case related to the Delhi Jal Commission.

“No one knows what this DJB (Delhi Jal Board) case is about. It seems to be a backup plan to arrest Kejriwal anyway and prevent him from contesting the Lok Sabha polls,” she told reporters.

Mr Kejriwal has been asked to testify before the agency in the Delhi JAL Commission case on Monday and in the liquor policy case on Thursday.

So far, he has skipped eight citations in liquor policy cases, calling them illegal. A day earlier, a Delhi court granted him bail after he skipped six of eight emergency room summonses.

Responding to the ninth summons in the liquor policy case, a BJP leader said Mr Kejriwal was on the run from the law and he should answer questions raised by the agency.

“The ED has issued summons in accordance with the law. But the Delhi chief minister is evading it and only he knows the reason. He has a habit of playing the victim card,” Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurrana said.

Atish said the Delhi chief minister received the summons hours after the Lok Sabha election date was announced and accused the BJP of using the education ministry and the CBI to target their political rivals.

The education ministry is probing alleged money laundering in the now-defunct Delhi excise policy 2021-22, which allegedly benefited certain liquor dealers. AAP has denied the allegations.

BRS leader K Kavitha was arrested yesterday in connection with the case.

In the Delhi Jal Board case, the central agency claimed that bribe money generated from Delhi government tenders was “passed on” to the AAP as election funds.

As part of its investigation, the ED in February raided Mr Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar, AAP MP ND Gupta, former DJB member Shalabh Kumar and chartered accountant Pankaj Mangal.

Retired chief engineer Jagdish Kumar Arora and contractor Anil Kumar Aggarwal were arrested in January in a bribery case.

According to the CBI FIR, Mr. Arora awarded the DJB contract to NKG Infrastructure Ltd for Rs 38 crore even though the company “did not meet” the technical eligibility criteria.
