'The entire BJP says he is corrupt': AAP on resigning minister Raj Kumar Anand

“Every minister and MLA faces a test,” AAP said.

New Delhi:

Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party said its minister Raj Kumar Anand resigned today and quit the party, accusing it of corruption and that he was under pressure from investigative agencies. The party noted that he had been under the scanner of central agencies and his home was raided last year in connection with a corruption case.

Mr Anand resigned from the cabinet and the party earlier today. “I joined AAP after seeing its strong message on anti-corruption. Today, the party finds itself mired in corrupt practices. That’s why I decided Reasons for quitting.” Tribal Combo.

AAP presses the rewind button. Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said the Enforcement Directorate raided Raaj Kumar Anand’s house for 23 hours in November. “The entire BJP was saying that Raj Kumar Anand was corrupt,” he said.

Mr. Bhardwaj reiterated that the BJP’s arrest of Arvind Kejriwal was aimed at breaking AAP and “every minister and MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party faces a test”.

Bhardwaj added: “We know that some people will retreat from this fight, some people will be demoralized, some people will break down, but there are many people who will face these situations.”

In November 2023, the Enforcement Directorate raided Mr Anand’s house in a customs-related money laundering case. In its complaint filed in a local court, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence alleged that there were false declarations on imported goods and tax evasion amounting to over Rs 7 crore. The ED subsequently lodged a complaint against Mr Anand.

Senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atish had earlier claimed that the BJP was in touch with several leaders of her party and was trying to poach them using carrots and sticks. Atish claimed that she and a number of others had been approached by the party.

The BJP has filed a defamation case against her over the claim and lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, which has issued a notice.

Anand is the first AAP leader to resign over public accusations of corruption since the central agency began a series of arrests.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his former deputy Manish Sisodia and senior leader Satyender Jain are all in jail. Only one leader, Sanjay Singh, was granted bail last week.
