A 31-year-old Chinese tourist has died after falling 250 feet on an active volcano in Indonesia. The incident happened when the woman, Huang Lihong (31), and her husband Zhang Yong, 32, were on a guided tour to Ijen – a volcano park in East Java – to see its popular “blue fire” phenomenon, the New York Post said in a report.

While posing for a photo, Lihong lost her balance and fell into the volcano. After about two hours of operation, his body was recovered by the rescuers.

Local tour guides said Lihong initially kept a safe distance from the rim of the active volcano but then began walking backwards while posing for photos.

She then accidentally stepped on her clothes, tripped and fell into the crater, tour guides said.

Following the incident, the local police reached the spot and started investigation. They have classified her death as an accident.

In a photo circulating on social media, Lihong is posing with one leg raised, with clouds of sulfur gas behind him.

Local media reported that his body will be flown to Bali before being flown back to China.

Indonesia is home to around 130 active volcanoes. Millions of Indonesians live and work near the volcano, largely because of the fertile land suitable for agriculture.
