A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found stabbed to death in south London.

The 31-year-old victim was found suffering from stab wounds in Manor Park, Lewisham, at 11.15pm on Wednesday. Police sent paramedics and forced entry to the address. Despite efforts by emergency services to rescue her, she was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

That night, a 24-year-old man was arrested at another address in Lewisham on suspicion of murder. He was detained at a south London police station.

Police cordoned off a residential area on Staplehurst Road, near Heather Green train station and a row of shops. It is frequently used by commuters traveling to and from the station.

A forensics officer was found at the scene around lunchtime on Thursday, along with a number of police cars. A police officer stands outside a residential complex on the street, within a cordon.

DCI Mike Nolan, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know local people will be shocked by this incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.”

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
