Major gym firm eyes UK expansion after opening its 100th branch

JD Gyms is set to open its 100th gym in the UK as 24-hour fitness sector chain Muscles focuses on further expansion.

The Wigan-based chain, which is part of global retail group JD Sports Fashion, will mark the milestone with the launch EnfieldAnswer Londonin November.

It is preparing for two more openings before the end of the year, and is aiming to open 10 to 15 new gyms in 2026.

The brand, which was launched in 2014, has a large gym following Answer Of England But said the new Enfield location would open the door to future expansion into Greater London.

The £21 million investment program in the latest financial year includes upgrading equipment on the gym floors and converting most sites to 24-hour opening.

JD Gyms is one of the newer chains capitalizing on the demand for low-cost and contract-free memberships at 24-7 gyms.

Rival chain PureGym recently said it planned to open 60 new gyms in the UK next year, adding that more people are prioritizing their health but want value for money.

JD Jims revealed its revenue rose by a fifth to £122 million in the year to February, according to its latest accounts.

Its profit before adjusting items rose 42 per cent year-on-year to £42.1 million.

Membership increased by approximately 40,000 to a total of 572,000 at the end of the financial year.
