Amaravati, Oct 27 (IANS) As Cyclone Month moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday ordered immediate shifting of people from at-risk coastal areas to relief camps.

Since the impact of the cyclone is likely to intensify from Tuesday, he directed officials to alert people.

During a tele-conference with district collectors and other officials, the Chief Minister asked them to provide quality food in relief camps and also organize medical camps.

He instructed the collectors to appoint special in-charge for relief camps. The Chief Minister held a review meeting at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) and later held a teleconference with district collectors, SPs and other officials.

He asked officials to ensure supply of safe drinking water and make medical personnel available to provide emergency medical services.

The Chief Minister directed collectors of districts likely to be affected by the cyclone to declare holiday in educational institutions. He wanted them to take responsibility so that there is no loss to anyone’s property or life anywhere.

He said collectors are responsible for monitoring cyclone relief measures in the districts and volunteers should be used for relief operations. He said that the entire government machinery should work with commitment and deal with the cyclone effectively.

Naidu took information about the situation from collectors of various districts. Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla said that it has been raining in Nellore district since Sunday night and all precautionary measures have been taken.

The Chief Minister asked the collectors to ensure that the banks of lakes and canals are not breached. He also wanted them to ensure that people did not go out during the cyclone.

Officials were also directed to take measures to prevent landslides and accidents in hilly areas like Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and Visakhapatnam.

Meanwhile, Home Minister V. Anitha has urged citizens to act responsibly on social media during Cyclone Montha and avoid forwarding or posting unverified information. The minister said that the state government is fully alert and prepared to deal with any situation that may arise due to the impact of the cyclone.

He said that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, all departments have been working in close coordination for the last three days, taking necessary precautionary measures in the cyclone-affected areas.

The minister said the government has implemented a coordinated response plan involving all key departments including district collectors, superintendents of police (SP) and line departments to ensure prompt and effective action.

He said that special officers have been appointed for the cyclone-affected districts and necessary funds have been released to assist in relief operations.

The minister said control rooms have been set up in all the districts and the government is disseminating timely updates to the public through official media and social media channels.
