On Sunday, sources in the Ministry of Education said that more than 20.8 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2025 examination held in 548 cities and 14 international centers in India.
Sources said the nationwide test was conducted smoothly without any major issue or report of misconduct.
“20.8 lakh candidates appeared in the exam. There is no doubt – it happened smoothly,” the source said, only minor issues such as late arrival and dress code were reported on minor issues. “No violations or improper means have been used yet,” the source confirmed.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) adopted a coordinated “entire-government” approach to ensure responsible, safe and fair conduct for conducting the medical entrance examination.
A centralized control room was established under the Ministry of Education, which brings officials of Health and Family Welfare, Home Ministries, Home Affairs, Defense and Electronics and IT (Matty) Ministries together. The hub monitored real -time development in coordination with district administration and police forces across the country.
To strengthen the oversite, the Nodal Higher Education Institutions (Hei) were assigned to work with local authorities for on-ground monitoring. On May 3, mock drills were held at all 5,453 centers to test biometric verification system, mobile signal jaamers, reading personnel readiness and other logistics.
Most of the central government and government were established in institutions aided to ensure administrative credibility. Given the afternoon schedule of the examination during the peak summer, the authorities ensured the availability of drinking water, power backup, portable toilets and first aid facilities in each center.
To curb wrong information and prevent misconduct, the NTA reported a suspicious claims to the portal on 26 April. The portal received more than 2,300 reports, which belong to the false claims of the papers leaked on social media. Authorities identified 106 telegram and 16 Instagram channels, which spread misinformation, and complaints have been filed with the Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) of India. Action is going on, and requests have been sent to social media platforms to remove fake content and share administrator details.
On Sunday, the latest complaints were filed against some active channels on Telegram and Instagram, confirmed by sources in the ministry. They are also being investigated by I4C, informed sources. (AI)
