42 candidates file nominations for Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh

Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said 42 candidates from different political parties, including Union Minister Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, filed in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday Nomination papers for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Rinwa said 46 candidates from different political parties had so far submitted their nomination papers.

The eight assembly constituencies of Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Binnor, Nagina-SC, Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit will be held on April 19 First phase of voting.

Four candidates, including Congress MP Imran Masood and Socialist Party of the Philippines MP Majeed Ali, filed nominations for the Saharanpur Lok Sabha seat.

In the Kairana constituency, seven candidates including Iqra Chowdhury of the Samajwadi Party, Nasheed Hasan, the “supplementary” candidate of the Socialist Party and Shripal of the Socialist Party of the Philippines, filed their nomination papers .

Eleven candidates for the Muzaffarnagar seat have submitted their nomination papers. Prominent among them are federal ministers and BJP candidates Sanjeev Kumar Balian, Samajwadi Party’s Harendra Malik and BJP’s Dara Singh Prajapati.

In Binol, four candidates, including Vijendra Singh of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, filed their nomination papers.

Five candidates have so far filed nomination papers for the Nagina (SC) Lok Sabha seat, three of them on Tuesday.

Five candidates from Moradabad, including Sarvesh Kumar Singh of the BJP and sitting MP S T Haasan of the Samajwadi Party, filed nominations, taking the total number in the parliamentary constituency to six.

Five candidates for the Rampur seat filed their nomination papers on Tuesday.

Three candidates from Pilibhit, including SP’s Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar and BSP’s Anis Ahmad (Phool Babu), filed their nomination papers on Tuesday. Four candidates have so far filed nomination papers from the seat.

Chief Electoral Officer Lin Wa said adequate security measures had been taken during the nomination submission process and the entire process was videotaped.

According to the Election Commission, notification for the first phase of voting was issued on March 20, with March 27 being the last date to submit nominations.

Review of nominations will take place on March 28, with the last date to withdraw candidates being March 30.

This time, the BSP announced it would contest the election alone, while the BSP and the Congress – members of India’s opposition bloc – joined forces to contest the election.

The Rashtriya Lok Dal has joined hands with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, out of 80 seats in the state, the BJP won 62 seats and its ally Apna Dal (S) won two seats, completely destroying the Samajwadi Party-BJP alliance. The Congress won the sole Rabareli seat from which Sonia Gandhi was elected.

Mayawati’s party was the biggest winner in the SP-BSP alliance, winning 10 seats. Akhilesh Yadav’s SP won five seats while RLD was unable to open an account.

Of the eight Lok Sabha seats polled in the first phase, the BJP won Muzaffarnagar (Sanjeev Kumar Balian), Kairana (Pradeep Kumar) in 2019 Chaudhry) and Pilibhit (Varun Gandhi) constituencies.

Socialist Party’s ST Hasan won the Moradabad seat, while Azam Khan from Rampur won.

Haji Fazlur Rehman, Malook Nagar and Girish Chandra of the Socialist Party of the Philippines won the Sahar in the last general election Saharanpur, Bijnor and Nagina (SC) seats.
