Massive clashes broke out in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani state on Thursday after officials razed an “illegal” madrasa in the state. According to various reports, the gangsters threw stones at police and set fire to vehicles, including a police car.

The madrasa is believed to have been constructed illegally near Bhanpurpura police station and the demolition work was carried out by officials of the Haldwani Municipal Corporation.

In view of the escalating situation, more troops have been dispatched to Hardwani and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called for a meeting with senior officials.
