A 29-year-old Canadian man was arrested after the bodies of three children and two women were found burned in a car in Manitoba on Sunday, police said.

“It is believed that the adult male in custody and all five deceased persons were known to each other,” a statement from the RCMP said.

The events took place Sunday morning near Carman, a town of 2,800 people in central Manitoba.

A woman’s body was discovered on a road for the first time on Sunday morning.

The burning vehicle was found hours later and three children died at the scene.
