33 Maoists surrender to security forces in Chhattisgarh

Police said that at least 33 Maoists, 17 of them took a cumulative reward of Rs 49 lakh, surrendered to security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday.

He said that 22 cadres, including nine women, replaced themselves in front of senior police and Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) officials, later surrendered to the police officers, including two women, including two women, including two women.

He said that District Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), CRPF, and its elite unit Cobra played an important role in their surrender.

The official said that 11 other surrendered Maoists were active in the Badasatti village panchayat under the boundary of Phulbagadi police station.

With this, BadStti has become a Maoist-free village panchayat, he said.

Chavan said that four of them gave a reward of Rs 2 lakh every 2 lakh rupees, and one gave a reward of Rs 50,000.

The official said that under the new Chhattisgarh Maoist surrender/victim relief and rehabilitation Policy -2025, the state government has introduced the ‘Elvad Panchayat Scheme’, in which Rs 1 crore for gram panchayats.

He said, “For the last 15 days, the police have been targeting Badstti village and were in touch with local panchayat representatives to encourage village level members such as militia and revolutionary party committee.”

Chavan said that 11 Maoists operating in Badasatti were identified, and with their surrender, the panchayat has become Maoist-free.

He said that all the surrendered Maoists were provided assistance of Rs 50,000 every 50,000 rupees, and they would be further rehabilitated as per the government’s policy.

Last year, 792 Maoists surrendered in Bastar region, including seven districts including Sukma.
