3-year-old girl diagnosed with rare condition can't stop eating casts, foam, wool

A woman is asking for help with her three-year-old daughter’s rare condition that ‘eats the house’. Stacey A’Hearne, from Blackwood, Wales, said she had to stop her daughter Wynter from chewing on potentially dangerous items such as plaster on walls, sofa foam and the sides of a high chair . The 25-year-old said Winter was diagnosed with autism and suffered from an unusual eating disorder called pica, which creates cravings for unsafe foods.

After examination, the girl was finally diagnosed with pica and autism in January 2024.

“Pica is more common in children with autism, which Winter also has. I think it’s a sensory issue and she craves different textures. She has very severe autism, which Meaning she didn’t talk much and had some behavioral issues,” Ms Ahearn said.

She said she had to keep an eye on Winter and hoped the girl would eventually break free.
