Kharkiv:

A 240-meter television tower in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv snapped in half and fell to the ground on Monday, footage obtained by Reuters showed, after local officials said there was a Russian missile attack on the television infrastructure.

Broadcast signals were disrupted for Ukraine’s second-largest city, which has been hit by Russian missile and drone attacks in recent weeks.

“At the moment there are interruptions in the digital television signal,” said regional governor Oleh Sinihubov.

He added that there was no casualty as the workers were in the shelter.

Footage from the scene showed the tower’s main mast collapsing and falling, sending plumes of smoke into the sky.

It was not clear from the footage who hit the mast, but prosecutors in Kharkiv said Russia likely used a Kh-59 cruise missile in the attack.

The video was confirmed by confirming the video from another angle, in which the top of the tower collapsed at the same moment.

Russia first launched its full-scale attack in early March 2022, shortly after attacking Kharkiv’s television tower several times. At that time the signal was interrupted.

Moscow has recently stepped up its attacks, while Ukraine is struggling with a lack of air defense capabilities. The most intense attacks occurred in Kharkiv and the surrounding area.
